Ford Motor Co. sold more than 217,000 vans in 2018, which marked the 40th year the company has sold the most vans in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

Ford's sales represented more than half of all vans sold in North America, which included its Transit full-size van, Transit Connect compact van, and E-Series cutaway and chassis cab. Ford increased sales of its Transit by 8.19% to 137,794 over 2017. Transit Connect sales fell 7.4% to 31,923 on the eve of the introduction of the third-generation model for the 2019 model year. Sales of the E-Series fell 10.07% to 47,936, according to GoodCarBadCar.net.

Ford has led overall van sales since 1979, and sales of compact vans since 2009. Ford has sold 7.1 million vans since 1979, according to the company.

General Motors sold 79,036 vans, including 59,351 Express (down 14.19%) and 19,685 GMC Savana (down 33.67%) full-size vans.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles sold 60,388 Ram vans, including 46,600 ProMaster full-size vans (up 15.11%) and 13,788 ProMaster City compact vans (down 11.52%).

Nissan sold 35,530 vans, including 18,628 NV200 compact vans (up 0.14%) and 16,902 NV full-size vans (down 5.35%).

Mercedes-Benz sold 35,364 vans, including 27,226 Sprinter full-size vans (down 0.69%) and 8,138 Metris midsize vans (up 7.38%) ahead of the third-generation Sprinter, which is now being built in an assembly plant on the outskirts of Charleston, S.C.
