Ford is adding a few enhancements to its 2019 Transit full-size van ahead of a likely next-generation model on the cargo and passenger versions, a spokesperson told AutomotiveFleet.com.

To help drivers load and unload cargo, the 2019 Transit will increase the opening angle of the rear door hinge on the 148-inch wheelbase model to 253 degrees from 237 degrees. The Rear Recovery Eye tow hook is also now standard on cargo and passenger models, said Kristen Simpson, a Ford spokesperson.

Buyers of the chassis cab and cutaway vans can now opt for new running boards. Other options include heavy-duty tray-style mats and D-pillar grab handles. Fleet customers can also add optional white steel wheels with exposed lug nuts for dual-rear-wheel vans.

The passenger model will offer new seating layouts for five, 10, 11, and 14 passengers.

The 2019 Transit carries over its three engines, which include the 3.7-liter Ti-VCT V-6 (275 horsepower and 260 pound-feet), 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 (310 hp and 400 lb.-ft.), and 3.2-liter inline-five-cylinder Power Stroke turbo diesel (185 hp and 350 lb.-ft.). All color options also carry over from 2018.
