Thomas Sedran has been appointed CEO of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

Volkswagen has appointed Thomas Sedran as the CEO of its commercial vehicles brand, which will officially take effect September 2018.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ current CEO, Eckhard Scholz, has voluntarily stepped down from his position, according to release from Volkswagen. Sedran, who currently serves as general secretary and senior VP of group strategy at Volkswagen AG, will be appointed CEO on Sept. 1, 2018. The successor of Sedran’s current position will be announced at a later date.

Sedran holds a Ph.D. in economics and worked as a management consultant from 1988 to 2012, according to release. Sedran became the member of the management board of Adam Opel AG in charge of strategy and operations and interim CEO in 2012, and assumed responsibility for the Chevrolet and Cadillac brands in Europe as president and managing director in July 2013. Volkswagen appointed him senior VP of Group Strategy in 2015 and he was later named general secretary of Volkswagen AG in 2017.

Scholz was appointed CEO of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand in July of 2014.
