For nearly 30 years, the Toyota RAV4 has defined the compact SUV segment. Since its U.S. debut in 1996, more than 6.4 million RAV4 models have been sold. The 2026 RAV4 continues that legacy with redesigned exterior and interior styling, updated hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, new technology, and improvements in ride comfort and handling.

Electrified Lineup

The 2026 RAV4 will be offered in three distinct exterior styles: Core, Rugged, and Sport.

  • Core Design includes the LE, XLE Premium, and Limited grades.

  • Rugged Design applies to the Woodland grade.

  • Sport Design covers the SE, XSE, and GR SPORT models.

For 2026, Toyota transitions RAV4 to a 100% electrified lineup with hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) options. Hybrid models will be available in Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) or Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD), while all PHEV models come standard with AWD.

Powertrains and Performance

Hybrid models deliver 226 net system horsepower (FWD) and 236 hp (AWD), while plug-in hybrid models produce 324 hp—a 22 hp increase over the previous generation. The PHEV also achieves a 23% longer all-electric driving range, up to 52 miles.

Manufacturer-estimated fuel economy is up to 44 mpg combined for hybrid FWD models and 41 mpg combined for plug-in hybrid grades.

Suspension tuning and added frame rigidity improve handling and comfort. A new Electronically Controlled Brake System, Vehicle Braking Posture Control, and Cooperative Steering Driving Force Control provide greater precision and stability in cornering and braking.

Built to Drive

The 2026 RAV4 is built on Toyota’s TNGA-K unibody platform, now enhanced with increased structural stiffness and new high-damping adhesives to reduce cabin noise and vibration. The result is a quieter, more composed ride.

Production will take place at Toyota facilities in Kentucky, Ontario, and Japan, depending on model and powertrain configuration.

Interior Design and Comfort

Inside, the RAV4’s cabin is designed for functionality and comfort. A new center stack integrates multimedia and climate controls, while the redesigned console adds storage and easier access to controls.

A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is standard, with a configurable display and optional head-up display on select trims. Seat materials range from durable fabric on base models to SofTex and Ultrasuede-trimmed options on higher grades.

Exterior Styling

The redesigned RAV4 emphasizes its SUV proportions with large tires, an elevated stance, and an upright rear profile. Toyota’s signature hammerhead front fascia, contoured hood, and LED lighting create a bolder look.

Wheel sizes range from 17 inches on the LE to 20 inches on XSE and GR SPORT grades. Four new colors join the lineup—Urban Rock, Meteor Shower, Everest, and Storm Cloud—alongside existing options such as Ice Cap, Ruby Flare Pearl, and Blueprint. Two-tone combinations are also available.

Aerodynamic features, including front cooling ducts and a rear spoiler, improve airflow and efficiency.

GR SPORT: Performance-Focused Plug-In

The first-ever RAV4 GR SPORT, developed with Toyota GAZOO Racing, offers a sport-tuned driving experience paired with the plug-in hybrid powertrain. The model produces 324 hp and includes upgraded suspension, dedicated steering mapping, and reinforced chassis components.

Woodland Grade: Off-Road Ready

The Woodland grade is designed for capability and utility. Standard AWD, all-terrain tires, raised suspension, and a 2-inch tow hitch receiver highlight its off-road readiness. The grade is available as both a hybrid and plug-in hybrid.

Technology and Connectivity

The 2026 RAV4 debuts Toyota’s latest Audio Multimedia System, developed in North America. The new system integrates 5G connectivity, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a faster “Hey Toyota” voice assistant.

A built-in Drive Recorder can capture short exterior camera clips, while available connected services include:

  • Drive Connect: Cloud navigation, voice assistant, and destination assist (1-year trial on select trims)

  • Remote Connect: Vehicle access via smartphone or smartwatch (1-year trial)

  • Wi-Fi Connect: In-vehicle hotspot and streaming (30-day trial)

  • Safety Connect and Service Connect: Five-year trial coverage for emergency assistance and vehicle health reports

Safety Systems

All 2026 RAV4 models come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, the newest version of Toyota’s driver assistance suite. The system includes:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD): Detects vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists and provides visual and audio alerts, followed by automatic emergency braking if necessary.

  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC): Maintains a preset distance from the vehicle ahead and automatically adjusts speed as needed.

  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA): Warns the driver when unintentional lane departure is detected and can apply corrective steering.

  • Lane Tracing Assist (LTA): Works with DRCC to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane.

  • Automatic High Beams (AHB): Switches between high and low beams when detecting other vehicles.

  • Road Sign Assist (RSA): Recognizes certain road signs and displays them on the instrument panel.

  • Proactive Driving Assist (PDA): Uses the vehicle’s camera and radar to provide gentle braking or steering to help maintain a safe distance from surrounding vehicles and pedestrians.

In addition to Toyota Safety Sense, the RAV4 includes Toyota’s Star Safety System, which features Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, and Smart Stop Technology.

Additional available driver-assistance technologies include a 3D Panoramic View Monitor, Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and a Rear Seat Reminder System.
