8 Trends: Work Truck Week 2026 Reveals a Fleet Industry in Reset Mode
GMC Previews Redesigned 2027 Sierra 1500 with New V8 Engines, Expanded Technology
The next-generation Sierra arrives later this year with new powertrains, a fully redesigned cabin, and trims aimed at the premium end of the full-size pickup segment.

The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition offers off-road capabilities in an upgraded interior package.

GMC has released an early look at the next-generation 2027 Sierra 1500, ahead of an expected launch before the end of 2026. The redesign's headline addition is a pair of sixth-generation small block V8 engines — a 5.7L and a 6.6L — developed with advances in combustion, cooling, and fuel injection that GMC says improve refinement and performance across a range of conditions, from daily driving to towing and off-road use.
The Sierra 1500 will continue to offer an enhanced TurboMax engine, which GMC claims delivers best-in-class standard torque, and a class-exclusive Duramax diesel. All available engines will pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Full powertrain specifications will be released closer to the on-sale date.
A Redesigned Cabin
Every trim level receives a fully redesigned interior with new colorways, premium materials, and what GMC describes as best-in-class standard front head and legroom in the crew cab.
The updated MultiPro center console adds expanded storage and USB charging access, and opens to create an extended work surface — a practical addition for vocational and service fleet drivers who spend long hours in the cab.
Real wood trim accents are available across the lineup, with forged wood reserved for the flagship Denali Ultimate. A panoramic sunroof is also available.
Denali Ultimate Pushes the Premium Ceiling
The Denali Ultimate sits at the top of the Sierra hierarchy and is where GMC most visibly stakes out its position as the premium alternative within GM's truck portfolio. It comes standard with the 6.6L V8 — the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in the segment, according to GMC — and more than 60 inches of combined digital displays, the most in class.
That display package includes a 16.3-inch infotainment screen, an 11.5-inch front passenger screen, a 12.2-inch driver information center, and a 15-inch multicolor head-up display. A 16-speaker Bose Premium Series audio system with head restraint-mounted speakers rounds out the interior technology.
Denali Ultimate also comes standard with a three-year Super Cruise subscription. The hands-free driver assistance system covers more than 600,000 miles of compatible roads in the U.S. and Canada and includes trailering capability — something GMC says no competitor in the segment offers.

AT4X Targets Off-Road Capability
For fleet applications requiring serious off-road performance — utility, forestry, oil and gas, or similar vocational uses — the AT4X adds hardware specifically tuned for demanding terrain. New features for 2027 include 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers for high-speed off-road impacts, and a combination of front and rear e-locking differentials that GMC says is not available on any competitor in the segment.
The AT4X also receives a unique hood design, a 2-inch suspension lift, and an exclusive Timber Mahogany interior colorway. GMC will continue to offer the AEV Edition package for buyers requiring additional capability beyond the AT4X baseline.
Lineup and Availability
The full 2027 Sierra 1500 lineup — Pro, Elevation, AT4, Denali, Denali Ultimate, and AT4X — is expected at dealerships before the end of the 2026 calendar year. Additional specifications and pricing will be released ahead of the on-sale date.
