In tallying up the sales performance of commercial fleets at mid-year, gains can be seen in monthly and first-half year numbers that contribute to a strong total fleet sales finish so far in 2026, according to monthly fleet sales figures released by Bobit Business Media on July 1.

All three fleet sectors generated sales gains in June and year-to-date.

Commercial fleet sales numbered 431,870 vehicles year to date compared to 401,268 sold through June 30, 2025, for an increase of 7.6%.

"Commercial vehicle sales increased 10% in June compared to last year and are almost 8% this year," said Zohaib Rahim, senior manager of economic and industry insights for Cox Automotive. "The rebound in sales comes after a dip in May, as commercial vehicles continue to see strong sales gains this year."

Sales activity in the three fleet segments for June 2026 were as follows:

  • Commercial fleet sales numbered 79,625 vehicles last month, from 72,306 in June 2025, rising 10.1%.
  • Rental fleet sales rose a healthy 11.5%, from 97,241 rental cars sold in June 2025 to 108,432 vehicles sold last month.
  • Government fleet vehicle sales rose 5%, with 22,626 vehicles sold in June compared to 21,539 vehicles sold in June 2025. (The six major Asian-based automakers did not report any government fleet numbers for June.)

Those numbers resulted in total June fleet sales of 210,683, up 10.3% from 191,086 vehicles sold in June 2025.

Commercial, rental, and government fleet sales in the first half of 2026 reached 1,251,619 total fleet vehicles sold, up 4.4% compared to 1,198,777 vehicles sold in the first six months of 2025.

"The U.S. economy continues its expansion, as growth remains stable in 2026," Rahim said. "First quarter Real GDP was revised up to a 2.1% annualized rate from the 1.6% prior estimate, and business investment remains positive, leading to a favorable environment for commercial vehicle demand.

Bobit Business Media (BBM), owner of Auto Rental News, compiles fleet sales statistics based on aggregate data from the three major Detroit-based auto manufacturers, the Asian Big 6 automakers, and VW. The statistics include cars, SUVs, and trucks.
