Raymond “Ray” L. Breault, a longtime fleet industry leader, former NAFA president and 2008 Automotive Fleet Hall of Fame inductee, died May 1 at the age of 95.
Breault spent nearly six decades in the fleet industry, beginning his career in 1959 with Hoffmann-La Roche in New Jersey, where he helped grow the company’s fleet operation from fewer than 200 vehicles to nearly 3,000 units. He later joined Rental Concepts — now Fleet Response — as Northeast regional sales manager in 1991 and remained active in the fleet community for years after his official retirement.
A dedicated NAFA Fleet Management Association member since 1959, Breault served in numerous chapter and national leadership positions, including NAFA president from 1977 to 1979. He received the NAFA Outstanding Chapter Service Award and was inducted into the Automotive Fleet Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions to the profession.
Fleet Response described Breault as “one of the industry’s most respected and recognizable figures,” noting his commitment to mentoring others and advancing the fleet profession. He retired in 1996 but proved his own saying “Fleet gets in your blood,” by taking on a customer service role soon after.
Born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, Breault also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen, children and extended family. Funeral services are scheduled for May 20-21 in Jackson and Toms River, New Jersey.
