WASHINGTON – Navistar is recalling 6,779 model-year 2012-2013 International brand trucks because their brake S-Cam tube bracket assemblies on the steer axles might fracture, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

This condition could lead to an inoperative brake on the affected wheel, which could cause the vehicle to pull to one side during braking or to increase stopping distance.

The recall covers International 9900 (MY 2013), International LoneStar (MY 2012-2013), International PayStar (MY 2012-2013), International ProStar (MY 2012-2013), International TranStar (MY 2012) and International WorkStar (MY 2012-2013) commercial trucks manufactured from Aug. 1, 2011 through July 31, 2012 that are equipped with front brake linings listed as feature codes 0504501 or 0504504.

To fix the problem, Navistar dealers will replace the S-Cam tube bracket assemblies free of charge. The safety recall is expected to get under way around Jan. 21, 2013.

Truck owners can reach Navistar at (800) 448-7825.
