As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, Amazon is adding 100,000 new full and part-time positions across the U.S. in its fulfillment centers and delivery network to meet the surge in demand for online orders and deliver.
Amazon is hoping to attract people who have been economically impacted as jobs in areas like hospitality, restaurants, and travel are lost or furloughed.
Due to the crisis, Amazon will also be increasing wages an additional $2 per hour worked through April from its current rate of $15/hour or more, depending on the region. In Canada, wages will also increase $2 Canadian dollars; 2 pounds sterling per hour in the U.K.; and approximately 2 euros per hour in many E.U. countries.
The company said it will continue to consult with medical and health experts, and take all recommended precautions in its buildings and stores to keep people healthy.
