Toyota is adding CarPlay to its 2019 Camry midsize sedan, a year removed from a generational update, to enhance its connectivity and appeal for the sales fleets that use the vehicle, Toyota has announced.

"Our commercial customers have been asking for Apple CarPlay," said Mark Oldenburg, Toyota's senior national fleet operations manager. "They want ease of use for their drivers using company vehicles. They can easily connect to the car and, instead of using their phones, they can use the interface now available in the car."

The Camry entered its eighth generation with the 2018 model. The sedan was lowered, widened, and lengthened. A trio of new powertrains improved fuel economy, and the Toyota Safety Sense package became standard across the nameplate.

Safety equipment carries broad-ranging appeal to the commercial fleet managers of Camrys, who use it to reduce driving risk. The 2019 Camry carries over standard safety equipment from 2018 such as a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, radar-based adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist; and automatic high beams. Select models will also have an available blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert.

"Fleet customers use their cars as their offices and they need all of these safety features to keep their most valuable assets, their drivers, on the road," Oldenburg said.

Trim grades remain at L, LE, SE, XLE, XSE, XLE V6, and XSE X6. The starting MSRP increases $200 to $23,845.
