Subaru's 2019 Crosstrek Hybrid will debut ahead of the LA Auto Show as the automaker's first plug-in vehicle that comes as the fruit of Subaru's partnership with Toyota.
The plug-in subcompact crossover is Subaru's second crack at this segment. Subaru offered its traditional syncronous-motor hybrid XV Crosstrek Hybrid in 2013 and 2014 before discontinuing the model due to low sales.
The 2019 Crosstrek Hybrid pairs the StarDrive hybrid system with its 2.0-liter direct-injected Boxer engine, as well as a new continuously variable transmission and all-wheel drive. StarDrive uses technology sourced from Toyota that uses two electric motors, including one motor that functions as an engine starter. The vehicle would be capable of delivering a range of 480 miles amd up to 90 equivalent miles per gallon.
The vehicle would qualify for high occupancy vehicle (HOV) permits in California, New York, Maryland, and other states.
Subaru's EyeSight driver-assisting technology is standard.
The 2019 Crosstrek Hybrid would retail for $34,995 plus a $975 delivery fee.
