Chevrolet Improves 2019 Silverado's Bed
Chevrolet has increased the capabilities of the bed of its 2019 Silverado to expand space for payload and improve durability, Chevrolet has announced.

Chevrolet has increased the capabilities of the bed of its 2019 Silverado to expand space for payload and improve durability, Chevrolet has announced.
The new bed, which will be known as Durabed, increases volume over the outgoing pickup by 18.8% in the short box to 63 cubic feet, 16.1% in the standard box to 72 cubic feet, and 18.6% in the long box to 89 cubic feet. Chevrolet extended the width of the bed floor by about 10% (7 inches) to achieve the increased volume.
Chevrolet is also using a higher-grade steel for the 2019 model. The quality of the bed floor increases to 500 from 300 megapascals.
The pickup now has 12 fixed tie-downs that each have been strengthened by double to 500 pounds of force. There are also nine moveable tie-down points. Chevrolet has adjusted the location of the tie-downs so they're now at varying heights to offer greater versatility in what customers can haul. Durabed is available with integrated LED lighting and a 110/120-volt power outlet.
Chevrolet will offer four tailgate variants, including a standard manual gate, standard gate with lift assist, power lock and release, and a power up/down gate available on the LTZ and standard on High Country.
The 2019 Silverado 1500 goes on sale in the fall.
