Cadillac is expanding its luxury utility lineup with another midsize option and a future battery-electric model, the GM unit announced at the Detroit auto show.
The 2020 XT6 three-row midsize SUV will slot in above the XT4 and XT5 and under the Escalade. It will deliver power from a 3.6-liter V-6 engine through a nine-speed automatic transmission to a front-wheel drivetrain. It will be based on a unibody non-truck architecture, unlike the Escalade, and will offer all-wheel drive.
XT6 models will include Premium Luxury and Sport with a plenty of advanced driver assistance and safety technologies even on the entry model. Standard equipment will include an HD rear-view camera, forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian braking, front and rear park assist, blind zone alert, land change alert, rear cross traffic alert, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, safey seat alert, and a speed limiter.
The vehicle will be available for ordering in the spring for summer delivery. It will be built at GM's Spring Hill, Tenn. assembly plant.
Cadillac has also unveiled its first fully electric vehicle, which will be the first of GM's next generation of electric vehicles. The name and additional details will be released closer to launch. It will be offered in front-, rear-, or all-wheel drive. Cadillac is introducing a new model every six months through 2021.
