General Motors has named its product leader Mark Reuss president to replace Dan Ammann, who has left to become chief executive for the automaker's Cruise autonomous vehicle unit.

Reuss is adding new responsibilities to his current responsibilities where he oversees the Global Product Group and Cadillac by assuming responsibility for GM's Quality organization.

"Mark's global operational experience, deep product knowledge and strong leadership will serve us well as we continue to strengthen our current business, take advantage of growth opportunities and further define the future of personal mobility," said Mary Barra, chairman and CEO. "Mark has played a critical role in leading the development of the company’s award-winning vehicles while transitioning his team to prepare for growing electrification and autonomous technologies."

Reuss plans to double the resources allocated to electric and autonomous vehicle programs in the next two years, according to GM.

Reuss began overseeing Cadillac in June. Since then, he has been accelerating a product plan where Cadillac will roll out a new vehicle every six months through 2021. He has also been leading the company's global product development.
