Volvo has begun offering Accident Advisor, a smartphone-based service that provides resources for drivers shortly after they have been involved in an accident. The service could most likely be used by executive drivers using a reimbursement model.

Accident Advisor provides a link to emergency services, checklists, guided accident documentation, digital accident claims, and repair services following a collision. Volvo developed the service with CCC Information Services.

After drivers contact Volvo Customer Care and confirm they're not injured and don't need emergency services, a link can be texted to their smartphone, which opens a web-based application that takes drivers through important steps following an accident, according to Volvo.

The service will prompt drivers to capture facts and photos of the accident scene, and offer them the option to digitally notify their insurer and to search for collision repair shops. The service should help speed claims handling, reduce repair-cycle time, and better manage the overall post-collision process, according to Volvo.

Accident Advisor, which will be available for 2015.5 model year and newer Volvo vehicles, connects via the in-car SOS communications system. It will be available at not cost. Fleet drivers should check with their supervisor before using the service.

Drivers can use the service by calling customer service at 800-550-5658.
