Toyota is recalling an estimated 3,400 2019 Corolla Hatchback vehicles because the torque converter in the continuously variable transmission could malfunction.

In the event the CVT fails, it could potentially cause a loss of motive power while driving which increases the likelihood of a collision, especially if the vehicle is traveling at higher speeds.

To fix the problem, Toyota dealers will replace the Direct Shift-CVT with a new one containing a new torque converter, at no cost to owners.

Toyota is presently in the process of obtaining the parts and will notify owners via first-class mail by mid-February.

Owners can reach Toyota customer service at (800) 331-4331.
