Subaru and Acura ranked as the top automotive brand in Kelley Blue Book's annual 5-Year Cost to Own awards that names top luxury and non-luxury brands as well as 21 vehicle categories.
The rating considers depreciation, fuel costs, depreciation, expected fuel costs, finance and insurance fees, maintenance and repair costs, and state fees.
Subaru's overall vehicle lineup incurred less depreciation than many other automakers and offered superior fuel efficiency, according to KBB. Some of the models driving Subaru's success include the 2017 Crosstrek, BRZ, Outback and Forester. Subaru also earned this honor in 2015.
Vehicles that won their category in the passenger car categories included the Chevrolet Spark (subcompact car), Toyota Corolla (compact car), Ford Fiest ST (sporty compact car), Honda Accord (mid-size car), Chevrolet Impala (mid-size car), Buick Verano (entry-level luxury car), Lexus GS (luxury car), Lexus LS 460/460L (high-end luxury car), Toyota 86 (sports car), Toyota Prius (hybrid/alternative energy car), and the Toyota Prius Prime (electric vehicle).
Truck, SUV, and van winners included the Honda HR-V (subcompact SUV/crossover), Subaru Crosstrek (compact SUV/crossover), Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (mid-size SUV/crossover), Chevrolet Tahoe (full-size SUV/crossover), Buick Encore (luxury compact SUV/crossover), Infiniti QX60 (luxury mid-size SUV/crossover), Infiniti QX80 (luxury full-size SUV/crossover), Chevrolet Colorado (mid-size pickup truck), Chevrolet Silverado 1500 regular cab (full-size pickup truck), and Dodge Grand Caravan (minivan).
