Mercedes-Benz has introduced the all-new electric GLB, a compact SUV offered with standard five-seat capacity and optional seating for seven. At launch, the electric GLB lineup includes two models built on an 800-volt electrical architecture and designed to support fast charging and longer driving range.
“The all-new GLB is designed for everyday use, with five- or seven-seat flexibility,” said Mathias Geisen, member of the board of management, Mercedes-Benz Group AG, marketing & sales.
“The GLB brings Mercedes-Benz design into a new era for this segment,” said Gorden Wagener, chief design officer, Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
Powertrain, Range, And Charging
At launch, the electric GLB portfolio includes:
GLB 250+ With EQ Technology (268 hp)
GLB 350 4MATIC With EQ Technology (349 hp)
Both models use an 85-kWh usable lithium-ion battery. Mercedes-Benz lists up to 631 km of electric range (WLTP) for the GLB 250+.
The 800-volt architecture enables DC fast charging up to 320 kW at compatible stations. Mercedes-Benz says the GLB can add up to 260 km (WLTP) of range in 10 minutes. A DC converter is standard to support charging at 400-volt DC fast chargers.
Mercedes-Benz also confirmed the GLB will be offered with a 48-volt hybrid powertrain featuring an electric motor integrated into the transmission. The hybrid will be capable of electric driving and energy recuperation under certain conditions.
