2025 Fleet Sales Heading Toward a Fine Rental Fleet Finish

Car rental companies are buying vehicles at a pace on track to make total fleet sales for the year exceed 2024 levels.

With less than one month to go, 2025 fleet sales appear headed for a respectable close-out over last year’s totals with a sprint across the two-million mark in November, according to Bobit Business Media fleet numbers released Dec. 2.

Total fleet sales YTD as of Nov. 30 stood at 2,022,875 vehicles sold, up a crisp 3.9% from 1,947,046 vehicle sales in the first 11 months of 2024.

Most of the upward momentum so far this year can be attributed to rental car operations buying more vehicles in a year that saw more customer demand than in 2024.

Broken down by fleet sector:

  • Commercial fleet sales numbered 52,147 vehicles in November compared to 53,964 in November 2024, for a decline of 2.9%.

  • Rental fleets bought 98,409 vehicles, up 44.8% from 67,948 rental cars sold in November 2024.

  • Government fleet sales sank 17.3%, from 18,347 vehicles in November 2024 to 15,179 last month. [Government fleet totals included only numbers from Ford, GM, Stellantis, Kia, and Mazda].

Combined, the three fleet sectors in November totaled 165,735 vehicles sold, for a bump-up of 18.4% from the 139,989 vehicles fleet operations bought in November 2024.

Bobit Business Media (BBM), owner of Automotive Fleet, Vehicle Remarketing, Government Fleet, and Auto Rental News, compiles fleet sales figures that aggregate data from the three major Detroit-based auto manufacturers and the Asian Big 6 automakers. The statistics include cars, SUVs, and trucks.
