Mazda North American Operations has introduced the all-new 2026 CX-5, the third generation of its best-selling crossover. Since its launch in 2012, the CX-5 has helped showcase Mazda’s SkyActiv engineering and Kodo design philosophy. More than 1.6 million CX-5 units have been sold in the U.S. and 4.5 million globally.

For 2026, the CX-5 adds more interior space, updated technology and new safety features while retaining its familiar platform and design identity.

Updated Exterior Inspired by “Wearable Gear”

The 2026 CX-5’s updated design draws from Mazda’s “Wearable Gear” concept, which emphasizes function and versatility. The Kodo design approach retains the SUV’s recognizable profile while extending the body for more cabin space.

New 19-inch wheels and a wider stance contribute to a more planted look. The front features a more angular lighting design and wider grille with Mazda’s Signature Wing styling. Rear lighting has been revised to align with larger crossovers such as the CX-70 and CX-90. Mazda lettering replaces the rear badge.

Overall, the CX-5 gains 4.5 inches in overall length and wheelbase, and is more than half an inch wider than the previous generation.

Interior Space and Access Improved

Inside, the 2026 CX-5 adds legroom and headroom for rear-seat passengers. Door openings are larger to aid entry and exit, and a panoramic sunroof is available. A taller and longer cargo area, along with a lower lift-in height, enhances loading capability.

Interior materials and finishes include new ambient lighting options on the front door trim, offering seven colors. The layout is designed to be uncluttered and functional.

Technology Updates Include Larger Display and Google Integration

A 15.6-inch touchscreen — the largest offered on a Mazda model to date — is now available. The infotainment system includes Google built-in, offering access to Google Maps, Google Assistant and the Google Play Store. The interface supports smartphone-style customization and voice control.

Over-the-air updates will enable new app integration and system enhancements over time.

Safety Systems and Powertrain Updates

The new CX-5 includes an expanded set of standard and available advanced driver-assistance systems. Mazda expects the vehicle to continue its high safety performance, including past recognition as an IIHS Top Safety Pick+.

The base engine is a 2.5-liter SkyActiv-G four-cylinder, producing 187 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and standard i-Activ all-wheel drive. Mazda says the powertrain has been retuned for smoother response and reduced cabin noise.

A new hybrid model will follow in 2027. It will feature the SkyActiv-Z engine with Mazda Hybrid System technology, aimed at increasing fuel efficiency and performance.
