Volkswagen has made the decision to push back the introduction of its ID.7 all-electric sedan in the U.S. and Canada. The concept for the vehicle showcased for the first time in North America at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

Different Interests in Europe vs. North America

In a news release, the automaker noted that the model has been on sale in Europe since 2023, saying it has become an 'industry standard', winning various international awards and comparison tests. After the introduction of the ID.7 Tourer, customer demand for the models is higher than expected, especially in Germany.

In September 2023, the automaker reiterated its goal to produce only electric vehicles for its European lineup by 2033 at the latest.

In North America, Volkswagen stated that it experienced strong sales in Q1, with 27.5% growth, driven by its SUV segment. That comes as the brand celebrates 75 nears in the U.S., Automotive Fleet reported in early 2024.

"We remain committed to electric mobility — this year we have enhanced the range and performance on our all-electric 2024 ID.4 SUV, and we are thrilled to welcome the iconic Microbus back into our lineup with the arrival of the 2025 ID. Buzz in Q4," the release concluded.

In February 2024, Volkswagen released a statement to Reuters, saying it was sticking to its plans to launch 25 EVs in North America by 2030, but would adjust as the market shifts.

Volkswagen did not state when U.S. and Canadian fleet customers can expect to see the ID.7 on sale.
