With a positive approach to electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the fleet sector, and less affected by semiconductor supply issues, Hyundai in the UK has recorded the greatest annual growth of any OEM for True Fleet Sales during 2021.
The UK sales arm of the Korean OEM says it saw True Fleet sales (registrations to companies rather than demos or short term rental sales) grow by 104% year-on-year.
It says a deliberate strategy to deliver more sustainable fleet sales, along with the right models aligned to fleet decarbonization policies, were factors in the growth.
The Hyundai line-up has benefited from a number of zero emission cars bringing cost and tax saving benefits to both end-users and fleet managers, including the fully electric IONIQ, Kona Electric and IONIQ 5.
In addition ultra low emission vehicles such as the TUCSON Plug-in Hybrid and Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid - with a near 40 mile electric range - offer competitively low Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) taxation. Santa Fe is also one of a handful of vehicles that offer fleet drivers seven seats with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Tim White, Hyundai’s head of fleet, said:
“For the past two years, we have been working to actively build our fleet database, to completely overhaul the buying and research experience for our fleet customers and to introduce countless new innovations that will offer them a hassle-free ownership experience. These figures are a welcome endorsement for a team that has completely transformed the way our brand interacts with company car buyers, and we know that this is the first step in our long-term strategy for growth. More exciting new models are coming, all of which will deliver the blend of desirability, practicality and value-for-money that has helped achieve sustained growth in the True Fleet market.”
