TORONTO --- Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) will unveil a hybrid version of its Camry at the 2006 Canadian International Auto Show, scheduled for Feb. 17-26 in Toronto. The 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid uses Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) powertrain and is designed to exceed even the most stringent emissions standards, including California's Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV) regulations, Toyota said. "Since the introduction of Prius, the world's first mass-produced hybrid vehicle, Toyota has led the market in making hybrid technology affordable and easy to live with,” said Tony Wearing, managing director at TCI. “The new Camry Hybrid raises the standard for environmentally friendly transportation yet again." Camry Hybrid's HSD powertrain delivers a V6-equivalent performance of 192 horsepower, Toyota said. The powertrain includes a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder gasoline engine that develops 147 horsepower, and is coupled to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). HSD also comprises a small, specially developed 105-kilowatt electric drive motor, along with an ultra-small inverter with a specially designed compact 244-volt nickel-metal hydride battery.
