Toyota has completed its plant modernization project at its Indiana facility.

The modernization project required a total $1.3 billion investment from Toyota and has added 550 new jobs. The capital investment was used for retooling, new equipment installation, and advanced manufacturing technologies to modernize the facility to meet strong demand for the all-new 2020 Toyota Highlander.

This recent investment is part of a broader commitment from Toyota to invest $13 billion in its U.S. operations over a five-year period through 2021. Toyota has committed approximately $7.1 billion of that total to date.  

Toyota’s Indiana plant will focus on production of mid-size SUVs and minivans, including the Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, and Toyota Sienna.

The Indiana facility will cease production of the Toyota Sequoia by 2022. Toyota’s San Antonio, Texas facility will pick up production of the Sequoia beginning in 2022.
