Sixt SE and Intel subsidiary Mobileye will offer autonomous ride-hailing services in Munich in 2022 with plans to scale the driverless ride-sharing services across Germany and other European countries later this decade.

The autonomous robotaxi option will be part of the ride-hailing service SIXT ride and included in SIXT’s holistic mobility platform ONE. Riders can hail one of the robotaxis using either the Mobileye Moovit app or the integrated SIXT app for ride hailing, vehicle rental, car sharing and car subscriptions

Sixt SE co-CEO Alexander Sixt and Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger announced the collaboration at Germany’s recent 2021 International Motor Show, where Mobileye unveiled the MoovitAV- and SIXT-branded vehicles. Mobileye will own the robotaxi fleet used in Munich, while SIXT will provide, maintain and operate the fleet.

The collaboration is the first known commercial robotaxi service between a tech supplier and a mobility services provider. A recently enacted autonomous vehicle (AV) law permits driverless vehicles on German roads.
