The average fuel economy of new vehicles sold in August decreased by 0.1 mpg to 25.3 mpg from July, according to Brandon Schoettle and Michael Sivak, researchers from the University of Michigan's Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI).
The value for August is up 5.2 mpg since October of 2007, the beginning of monitoring, but still down 0.2 mpg from the peak of 25.5 mpg reached in August of 2014, according to the UMTRI report.
