Susan Hipp, executive director of Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS), passed away on January 26, 2026, after a long battle with cancer.
Hipp was unwaveringly dedicated to road safety and acted as an industry leader and friend to many. She was a part of NETS for 13 dedicated years, serving community members and colleagues.
Hipp began as operations manager before moving into the role of operations and marketing director. She was appointed executive director in 2021.
Hipp encouraged members' engagement by helping expand the organization’s global reach, which had a significant impact in reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities.
“Susan Hipp was not only an extraordinary leader, but a true friend and colleague to so many of us,” Jenn Guerrini, outgoing NETS chair, told Automotive Fleet. “Through her work with NETS, she helped shape road safety efforts that reached far beyond borders, influencing organizations and saving lives around the world. Susan had a rare ability to combine strategic vision with genuine care for people—she lifted others up, built meaningful partnerships, and inspired everyone around her to aim higher. Her passion, warmth, and unwavering commitment to making roads safer globally leave a legacy that will continue to guide and motivate us for years to come.”
In recognition of Hipp, the NETS Board of Directors established the Susan Hipp Road Safety Collaborative Leadership Award earlier this month. They presented the award to Hipp as its inaugural recipient.
The award recognizes industry leaders who have made an impact and brought others together to provide safer roads.
“Susan Hipp was a remarkable leader and a deeply loved colleague,” said incoming chair Tom Karnowski.
“She brought unmatched professionalism and infectious enthusiasm to everything she did — whether advancing bold, strategic initiatives or tackling the everyday work that keeps a mission moving. Under her leadership, NETS grew in impact, credibility, and reach, but her greatest legacy is the people she inspired and the culture of purpose and care she built. Susan’s influence on road safety, and on all of us who worked with her, will endure.”
