Nexar-Nauto Merger Aims to Give Fleets Better Safety Intelligence Through Larger Driving Dataset

Stefan Heck tells Automotive Fleet that combining more than 10 billion miles of driving history with Nexar's AI models will give fleets deeper insights into driver risk and roadway conditions than either company could provide independently.

Nexar and Nauto have agreed to merge, combining two of the fleet industry's largest sources of real-world driving data in a move the companies say will strengthen AI-powered safety, risk management, and operational intelligence.

The combined company will draw on more than 10 billion miles of historical driving data while adding more than 300 million real-world miles each month across more than 50 countries. The companies say the larger and more diverse dataset will improve the accuracy of AI models used by fleets, insurers, automakers, and autonomous vehicle developers.

For fleet operators, the biggest opportunity isn't simply collecting more data, it's generating better insights from it.

Merger Delivers Scale And Context

"The biggest change is scale and context," Stefan Heck, Nauto's founder and CEO, told Automotive Fleet.

"Together, they will create an independent intelligence platform built on more than 10 billion miles of driving history and over 300 million new real-world miles captured every month across more than 50 countries. That larger, more diverse dataset will enable AI models to recognize patterns and predict outcomes with a level of confidence that neither company could achieve independently."

Heck said fleets should benefit from the expanded data foundation as new capabilities are developed.

"The combined company has the potential to give new insights to fleets from the larger pool of data as well as additional models that originated with Nexar, like BADAS, the industry's leading incident prediction model, and Atlas, which searches how a place behaves, drawing on the combined record of real-world driving history," Heck said.

"For fleet executives who are looking to know more about the scenarios their drivers face every day and maximize their safety and efficiency, there should be a lot to look forward to."

Leadership of Combined Company

Nexar CEO Zach Greenberger will lead the combined company as CEO. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Heck will serve as chairman of the combined company's board.

The merger combines Nexar's extensive driving-data network—which captures more than 100 million miles of driving each month and covers 94% of U.S. roads—with Nauto's AI-powered fleet safety platform used by more than 1,000 commercial fleets worldwide.

The companies said existing customers will continue using their current products and support organizations following the merger, while gaining access to broader datasets and more predictive AI capabilities over time as integration progresses.

The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions.
