Hyundai's 2019 Kona Electric, its first battery-electric offering, retails for at least $37,495 for the entry model of three models that have gone on sale now in California, Hyundai has announced. The vehicle would be eligible for a $7,500 federal tax rebate that would bring the cost under $30,000.

The 2019 Kona Electric will also be offered in other zero-emission-vehicle states in the northeast.

Trim grades of the subcompact SUV include the base SEL, Limited, and Ultimate. A 150-killowatt electric motor powers all models. It delivers up to 201 horsepower through a single-speed reduction gear transmission to a front-wheel drivetrain. Pricing for Limited and Ultimate have been set at $42,195 and $45,745 respectively. All prices include a $1,045 delivery fee.

The higher grades add safety and convenience features, such as high beam assist, LED headlights, wireless device charging, pedestrian detection, reverse parking assist, and adaptive cruise control.
