General Motors has joined Together for Safer Roads (TSR), a coalition of global private sector companies working together to improve road safety, the coalition announced.

GM joins 14 other member companies working collaboratively to help reach the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety's goal to reduce road injuries and deaths by 50% by the year 2020.

GM operated in 115 countries and employing more than 215,000 people worldwide. GM sells more than 4 million cars and trucks sold per year.

"For more than a century, we have built a rich legacy of innovation, technological development, and leadership in vehicle, road, occupant, and pedestrian safety," said Greg Martin, executive director of global public policy of GM. "We have a long history of engagement and advocacy in the communities where we live and work, and are excited to contribute our expertise to Together for Safer Roads to advance road safety, while working collaboratively with other like-minded companies."

Formally launched in 2014, TSR engages road users, governments, policymakers, and other stakeholders to create a measurable and sustainable impact in road safety through results-driven initiatives. TSR leverages the expertise of its member companies to address strategic road safety challenges and collaborate with the broader road safety community to be the foremost voice for the private sector.

"As a leading vehicle manufacturer, GM brings important new perspectives and expertise to help us achieve our shared goal — a world where roads are safer for all people," said Carlos Brito, chairman of TSR and chief executive officer of AB InBev.
