WASHINGTON, D.C. --- For the fifth straight week, the U.S. average retail price for regular gasoline dropped, falling 2.7 cents to $2.982 per gallon as of June 25. But prices were still 11.3 cents per gallon higher than this time last year. All regions reported price decreases, according to the Energy Department's Energy Information Administration (EIA). East Coast prices dropped 3.0 cents to $2.946 per gallon. In the Midwest, prices fell 1.7 cents to $2.967 per gallon, while prices for the Gulf Coast decreased 2.3 cents to $2.880 per gallon. Rocky Mountain prices fell 4.3 cents to $3.138 per gallon but remained 30.7 cents per gallon above last year's price. West Coast prices were also down 4.3 cents to $3.145 per gallon. The average price for regular grade in California was down 4.4 cents to $3.192 per gallon. Retail diesel prices rose during the week, climbing 3.0 cents to $2.835 per gallon. Diesel prices were 3.2 cents per gallon lower than at this time last year, the EIA reported. All regions reported price increases for diesel. East Coast diesel prices were up 3.2 cents to $2.832 per gallon. In the Midwest, diesel prices increased 3.2 cents to $2.806 per gallon, while the Gulf Coast saw a rise of 2.7 cents to $2.780 per gallon. In the Rocky Mountain region, diesel prices climbed 2.9 cents to $2.936 per gallon. The West Coast price rose 2.7 cents to $2.985 per gallon. California diesel prices grew 4.0 cents to $3.073 per gallon, but remained 6.7 cents per gallon lower than at this time in 2006.
