Gasoline, Diesel Prices Rise Sharply

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Gasoline prices saw another significant increase for the week of April 2, jumping 9.7 cents to $2.707 per gallon. This is the ninth consecutive week of increases, reported the Energy Department's Energy Information Administration (EIA). Prices last week were 11.9 cents per gallon higher than at this time last year. All regions reported higher prices. East Coast prices were up 9.6 cents to $2.671 per gallon, while Midwest prices rose 9.6 cents to $2.614 per gallon. The Gulf Coast saw the largest regional increase, with prices up 12.3 cents to $2.565 per gallon. In the Rocky Mountains, prices increased 8.1 cents to $2.619 per gallon. West Coast prices were up 8.0 cents to $3.096 per gallon. The average price for regular grade in California was up 7.6 cents to $3.228 per gallon, 48.5 cents per gallon above last year's price. Retail diesel prices also increased last week, rising 11.4 cents to $2.790 per gallon. Diesel prices were 17.3 cents per gallon higher than at this time last year. All regions reported price increases. East Coast diesel prices rose 10.7 cents to $2.764 per gallon. The Midwest saw the largest jump, with prices up 12.5 cents to $2.780 per gallon. The Gulf Coast saw an increase of 12.3 cents to $2.766 per gallon, and Rocky Mountain prices were up 10.4 cents to $2.884 per gallon. Diesel prices on the West Coast saw an increase of 8.2 cents to $2.885 per gallon. California prices rose 7.0 cents to $2.939 per gallon --- 12.7 cents per gallon higher than at this time last year.
