Ford to Debut New 1.5L EcoBoost Engine in Fusion in U.S.
Although the engine is slated to appear first in the Mondeo in China, which will debut at the Auto Shanghai 2013 show, it will appear in the Fusion in North America this year.

Ford is building a new 1.5L EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, which the automaker said will be built at a number of locations around the world and will appear in a range of vehicles in different markets.
According to the automaker, the new 1.5L EcoBoost engine will feature similar horsepower and torque to Ford’s current 1.6L EcoBoost engine while providing improved fuel economy and reduced emissions compared to that engine. Ford added that the new 1.5L will include some features from the company’s 1.0L EcoBoost engine, such as an integrated exhaust manifold.
Although the engine is slated to appear first in the Mondeo in China, which will debut at the Auto Shanghai 2013 show, it will appear in the Fusion in North America this year and after that in the new Mondeo in Europe.
Production of the 1.5L EcoBoost engine will begin at Ford’s facility in Craiova, Romania, but the automaker said it plans to build the engine at other locations it plans to announce in the future.
Ford added that it now has the capacity to build 1.6 million EcoBoost engines annually. By the end of 2013, the company said six plants in Europe, Asia, and North America will be building EcoBoost engines, which is triple the number of plants doing so in 2010.
