Davis Instruments was recognized at the 2014 Connected World Awards in Chicago. Davis' CarChip Connect, a real-time GPS telematics device for small business and fleet managers, was honored for providing a GPS enabled safety solution that helps small businesses and fleet managers improve driver safety and save money.

"The use of the CarChip devices has helped us decrease our insurance costs by over $1 million; lowered the number of accidents; improved driver performance and safety, and improved maintenance efficiency," said Rita Guitron, business services manager at First Alarm. "As a leader in the security business, we feel CarChip Connect has enhanced the safety of our employees and the quality of service we provide to our customers."

In addition to improved driver safety, Guitron stated that she used CarChip Connect's web analytics to identify vehicle patterns that, when implemented, will save the company approximately $20,000 in fuel expense during the upcoming year.

The CarChip Connect Fleet Management System combines a small, easy-to-install OBD II-based telematics device with powerful web-based reporting. The device stores driving parameters and geofences internally and includes an onboard accelerometer and back up battery. As a result, fleet managers receive more immediate safety and location data, real-time alerts and tamper notifications. CarChip Connect's audible alarm gives drivers real-time feedback on their driving behavior promoting safer driving.

CarChip Connects web-based analytics offer fleet managers a quick, yet comprehensive view of their fleets. Company home pages feature a map, alerts, emission readiness and fleet summary panes.

Supported by Davis' reporting metrics, fleet data is combined into a single company score, providing color-coded at-a-glance information on how the fleet's performing. Additional reports hone in on driver safety, efficiency, location and vehicle maintenance. All reports can be customized for each fleet or location, focusing on specific areas of interest to a small business or fleet manager.

This award at Connected World was one of two awards Davis won. Davis was also recognized for Vantage Connect, Davis' telematics solution for remote weather monitoring.
