Since August of 2013, Argentina has added 27 compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling stations.
Five are located in the province of Córdoba, four in Buenos Aires, one in Entre Ríos, two in La Pampa, four in Santiago del Estero, one in Santa Fe, one in Neuquén, two in Jujuy, two in Salta and five Tucumán.
The sales of CNG are steady, averaging 180 million cubic meters per month said Enrique Fridman, president of the local Chamber of CNG Retailers in the NGV Journal.
Currently, approximately 1,700,000 registered CNG-powered vehicles are in operation around Argentina. The sector’s associations are jointly calling for more controls and propose the installation of a chip in the CNG vehicle, which will allow service stations managers to determine whether the vehicle is authorized to operate or not. If it is not, the pump will automatically block the fuel supply.
