Kenworth offers seven medium-duty trucks for the 2014-MY, including Class 5 (T170), Class 6 (K270 and T270), and Class 7 (K370, T370, T440, and T470). These trucks provide the varying levels of power that fleets need for today’s vocational truck fleets.

Kenworth Offers Cabover K-Series

The Kenworth K-Series is the truckmaker’s cabover truck, which includes the K270 Class 6 and the K370 Class 7. These models are ideal for pickup and delivery, towing, refrigerated van, roll-off, and landscape applications, according to the manufacturer.

The K270 and K370 come standard with the PACCAR PX-7 engine, rated up to 250 hp and up to 6600 lb.-ft. of torque.

Both cabovers have a 63.4-inch bumper to back of cab (BBC) dimension, enabling a 55-degree wheel cut for a tighter turning radius. In addition, the front panel of each truck opens for instant access to the air filter restriction gauge, coolant, washer fluid, refrigerant, and engine oil dipstick.

The interiors measure 82.5-inches wide, and seating includes Kenworth’s fully adjustable air cushion driver’s seat and two-person bench with lockable storage under the seat.

Kenworth’s Medium-Duty T-Series

The Kenworth T270 is a Class 6 vehicle, rated at 26,000-pounds GVW. Available as a straight truck, it can be configured for non-CDL operation, according to Kenworth.

The Class 7 T370, as a straight truck or tractor, offers a GVW range from 26,001 to 56,000 pounds with single or tandem rear axles.

For servicing and maintenance purposes, the T270 and T370 hood tilts a full 90 degrees for wide-open access to the engine and all service points.

Both models are equipped with the PACCAR PX-7 engine, rated up to 325 hp and 750 lb.-ft. of torque, or the optional PACCAR PX-9 engine, rated up to 350 hp and 1,150 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Kenworth T170 is a custom-built, Class 5 truck. A straight truck with a 4x2 configuration with a GVWR up to 19,500 pounds, the T170 also comes equipped with the PACCAR PX-7 engine, hydraulic brakes, and choice of a manual or automatic transmission.

Kenworth’s T440 model is built for more demanding regional haul, pickup and delivery; municipal; and vocational applications. It’s available as a straight truck or tractor in GVW ratings from 33,000 pounds to 68,000 pounds. It features a set-back axle and an optional automatic transmission and comes standard with the PACCAR PX-9 engine with up to 380 hp and 1,250 lb.-ft. of torque or the optional Cummins ISL G natural gas engine.

Optionally, Kenworth offers the Extended Day Cab with an additional 6 inches of length and 5 inches of cab height, a 38-inch AeroCab sleeper, an aluminum or three-piece aerodynamic bumper, and high-intensity discharge (HID) lighting. It can also be ordered with an air-ride cab, factory installed power take-off (PTO), and one-lift axle.

Finally, the Kenworth T470 is at the heavier end of the medium-duty truck spectrum, available in GVW ratings from 33,000 pounds to 68,000 pounds. Front axles are rated from 12,000 pounds to 22,000 pounds, single rear axles from 21,000 pounds to 30,000 pounds, and tandem rear axles from 40,000 to 46,000 pounds.

Powerplant choices on the T470 include the PACCAR PX-9 engine rated up to 380 hp and 1,250 lb.-ft. of torque or the Cummins ISL-G engine. It also features a set-back front axle.

Adding Alt-Fuel Vehicle Options

These medium-duty trucks also offer alternative-fuel options, including the Cummins ISL-G. According to the manufacturer, Kenworth is the only truck manufacturer to receive the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Air Excellence award in recognition of its environmentally friendly products.

The ISL-G is also available in compressed natural gas (CNG) or liqufied natural gas (LNG), and with an 8.9L I-6 engine, rated at up to 320 hp at 1,000 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,300 rpm.
