WASHINGTON – Nissan North America Inc. is recalling more than 36,600 2012 model-year Versa vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission and manufactured from June 9, 2011 through Jan. 13, 2012. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these vehicles may be shifted out of the park position without depressing the brake pedal because of interference between the shifter rod and the shift knob.
Nissan will notify vehicle owners of the recall, and dealers will make inspections and replace the shifter knob or shifter assembly as needed. There will be no charge for this service.
This recall is expected to begin Feb. 20.
Vehicle owners can reach Nissan at (800) 647-7261.
