WASHINGTON - Federal-Mogul Corp. is recalling nearly 22,700 replacement control arm assemblies sold for use on various Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The recall is to remedy a potential steering problem.

The recall covers MY 1995-2000 Chrysler Cirrus, MY 1996-2006 Chrysler Sebring Convertible, MY 1996-2006 Chrysler Sebring Sedan, MY 1995-2006 Dodge Stratus and MY 1996-2000 Plymouth Breeze vehicles. The ball joint on the control arm assembly can fail, causing the ball stud to wear through the control arm housing. This can result in noise and separation of the ball stud from the housing. Such a condition can eventually lead to loss of steering control.

This recall only covers replacement control arm assemblies and has no relation to any original equipment installed on vehicles manufactured by Chrysler LLC.

Federal-Mogul Corp. will notify owners of record and replace any defective control arms free of charge. The safety recall is expected to get under way in January.

Vehicle owners can reach Federal-Mogul Corp. at (877) 489-6659. This recall covers the following control arm assembly part numbers: K7425, 10945, FA4510X, K7427, 10946 and FA4611X.
