WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Nissan Diesel is recalling 1,166 MY 1999-2010 UD3300 trucks because their air brake systems don't comply with federal safety standards, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recalled trucks have insufficient air tank reserve capacity. This may result in insufficient air supply to properly operate the brakes during repetitive brake applications, the NHTSA reported. Diminished braking performance increases the risk of collision.

To remedy the problem, the air reservoir tank's volume will be increased to meet federal safety requirements. Dealers will perform the work free of charge.

The recall begins this month. Vehicle owners can contact Nissan Diesel at (972) 756-5500.
