RICHMOND, VA --- In 2009, the number of traffic fatalities in Virginia was the lowest since 1966, when records were first kept, according to the Virginia State Police.
In 2009, 750 people were killed in traffic crashes on Virginia roads. Of those, 70 were pedestrians. In contrast, 2008 saw 821 traffic fatalities in the state. In 2007, there were 1,026.
Through Jan. 4, three people had died in traffic crashes in the state thus far in 2010.
