HOUSTON --- Gasoline prices dropped a penny overnight to a national average of $1.835 a gallon for self-serve regular, according to data from the American Automobile Association, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express.

The average national price for gasoline has fallen 75 cents in the past month alone, the Associated Press reported. The average price is down 41 percent from the $3.09 retailers were charging on average a year ago.

On Friday, light sweet crude for January delivery settled down a penny at $54.43 a barrel. During the week of Nov. 24-28, oil prices fluctuated between $50 and $55, the Associated Press reported.
