Ford is working toward building a private LTE network to test connected vehicles that would operate at its campus in Dearborn, Michigan, the automaker announced in a Medium post.

Ericsson, Juniper, and Dell equipment will be used for the network which will operate on the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS), which lives on the 3.5 GHz band. Ford has filed a request with the FCC to build a test network on the spectrum band.

By building the network, Ford is looking to gain experience with installation and operation of a private cellular network for connected vehicle services, according to the company.
