Subaru's 2020 Legacy midsize sedan and 2020 Outback crossover will see price increases of $200 and $300 respectively as they enter new generations, the automaker has announced. Subaru has also announced pricing for its new optional driver distraction technology.
The base Legacy will retail for $23,645, including delivery fees, and the base Outback will retail for $27,655.
Subaru's midsize sedan is entering its seventh generation with more standard safety equipment on all six trim grades, an updated media system with greater connectivity, and an additional powertrain choice — a turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
The 2020 Legacy is available in base, Premium, Sport, Limited, Limited XT, and Touring XT. The XT models, which start at $35,095, are equipped with a new 2.5-liter turbocharged Boxer engine that makes 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque.
The 2020 Outback enters its sixth generation on a new platform with more standard safety equipment and an optional turbocharged engine. It's available in base, Premium, Limited, Touring, Onyx Edition XT, Limited XT, and Touring XT. The same turbocharged engine available in the Legacy carries the same power and torque ratings.
Subaru is rolling out a new advanced driver assistance system known as DriverFocus, which uses a driver-facing camera to reduce distracted driving and deal with driver fatigue. Subaru first added the system as an option on the 2019 Forester.
The system uses facial recognition technology to determine if a driver is distracted or drowsy. The technology is similar to what was used on the iPhone X. It can recognize up to five drivers and can remember each person's seating, climate, and infotainment preferences.
DriverFocus is available on Limited and above in a package that also includes a power moonroof, heated steering wheel, and 11.6-inch multimedia screen for $2,045.
