Land Rover will offer its next-generation Defender four-wheel drive utility vehicle for sale in the U.S. and Canada in 2020, following its unveiling later this year, Land Rover announced.

Land Rover is redesigning the Defender, which has been sold in global markets such as the United Kingdom and Australia, and has been used by military forces in those countries. The vehicle was sold briefly in the U.S. in the 1990s as the North American Spec (NAS) Defender, but its diesel engines eventually didn't pass more strict emissions testing. The vehicles have gained a cult-like following.

The new Defender, which is code-named L663, has been completely redesigned and will be sold with two wheelbases.
