Ford's 2019 Ranger delivers 270 hp and 310 lb.-ft. of torque that enables the midsize pickup to achieve towing and payload numbers at or near the top of the segment, Ford announced.
The Ranger's 2.3L turbocharged inline-four EcoBoost delivers higher torque ratings that other midsize pickups with V-6 engines and lower overall horsepower. Ford is pairing its engine with a 10-speed transmission.
The power ratings mean that the 2019 Ranger will be able to haul 1,860 pounds of payload and can tow up to 7,500 pounds, Ford announced.
The Ranger's higher-torque engine would exceed the Chevrolet Colorado's 3.6L V-6 with 275 lb.-ft. of torque, but slot below its 308-hp rating. The Toyota Tacoma offers a 3.5L V-6 that makes 278 hp and 265 lb.-ft. Nissan's Frontier is powered by a 4.0L V-6 that produces 261 hp and 281 lb.-ft. of torque.
