Volkswagen AG has been fined $1.18 billion (1 billion euros) by public prosecutors in Germany over diesel emissions cheating in approximately 10.7 million vehicles.
In a release, the automaker admitted to responsibility for the diesel crisis and was not planning to appeal the fines levied against it. The Braunschweig public prosecutors in Germany ordered the fine against Volkswagen for having vehicles available on the market with an impermissible software function between 2007 and 2015, the automaker said in a release.
