The Singer family, which founded Merchants Automotive Group and its associated fleet management company, has been given the 2018 Granite State Legacy award that recognizes the family's charitable donations, the Hooksett, N.H.-based company announced.

The award was presented to the New Hampshire Union Leader and sponsored by Eastern Bank. Gary Singer, owner and chairman of Merchants Fleet Management, accepted the award at a ceremony at Saint Anselm College on May 31 with his brothers Stephen, Alan, Jeffrey and wife Cindi.

The Singer family and its Merchants Charitable Contributions team support local causes and national organizations through donations and volunteering for charities such as the Salvation Army, New Horizons, Families in Transition, The American Cancer Society, and the American Red Cross. Their annual Gail Singer Memorial Blood Drive, named for Gary Singer’s late wife, is the largest blood drive in New England and will mark its 35th year this August.
