Called National Car Dealers Leasing Inc., it will operate initially in the East, but expects to eventually expand operations across the nation.
Organizers of the group include A. A. Martin, who has operated his own leasing company in Philadelphia for the past 13 years, Charles A. Bott, Philadelphia Chrysler dealer, Francis J. Lucas, Philadelphia Ford dealer, Richard T. Flohr, Chevrolet dealer and Harry W. Hall, who was associated with Martin in the renting and leasing company.
Bott, who has been named president of the group, said the objectives of National Car Dealers Leasing is to provide a complete leasing facility to enable cooperating and participating dealers to lease cars on a local and national basis without the need of setting up a separate leasing company.
The company will provide assistance in obtaining large national accounts and handle all forms, credit checks, lease papers and collections, Bott said.
According to Bott, National Car will operate on the theory that a dealer's prime goal is to sell vehicles but that a leasing operation can be a profitable adjunct to a dealer's operation.
"While we basically will concentrate on long term leasing, we also expect to provide cars for participating members, if desired, to be used for short term rentals, primarily dealers' service customers," Bott said.
Bott said that "there should be sufficient ears in an area to supply cars to customers at a nominal charge which the average customer is willing to pay for the convenience." He added that while National Car does not plan to enter the daily rental field, "the dealers desiring cars for short periods, by the week or month can be serviced."
