Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 6,858 2017-model year E300 Sedan and E300 Sedan 4Matic vehicles because of potential engine stalling, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

The recall affects cars manufactured from Dec. 10, 2015, to June 30, 2016. In these vehicles, the rear bench seat frame may contact and damage the wiring harness for the fuel pump, fuel tank pressure sensor, or fuel level gauge, according to NHTSA.

Damage to the fuel pump wiring may result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash,” the agency warned on its website.

MBUSA dealers will modify the routing of the affected wiring harness, repairing it as necessary. There will be no charge for this service.

The recall began Oct. 28. Vehicle owners can reach MBUSA customer service at (800) 367-6372.
