Southeast Toyota Distributors (SET), the largest independent distributor of Toyotas and Scions, is recalling 2,530 Toyota 4Runner vehicles to replace accessory exhaust tips that may be defective.

Additionally, SET is recalling 949 Toyota Prius C cars in the 2015 model year, as part of a separate recall.

The recalled 2010-2015 model-year 4Runners each have an accessory exhaust tip that may pose a burn injury risk when people stand behind the SUV, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The accessory exhaust tips were installed by SET or SET dealers. To resolve the issue, SET dealers will install a redesigned exhaust tip that’s smaller in diameter and more recessed behind the bumper, NHTSA said. There will be no charge for this service. SEC’s number for the 4Runner recall is SET15D.

The Prius C recall is tied to a calibration problem with the tire pressure monitoring systems. Because these systems may have been improperly calibrated, they may fail to warn drivers when tire pressure is low, NHTSA said. Dealers will recalibrate each tire monitoring system, free of charge, to fix the problem.

SET’s number for the Prius C recall is SET15E.

Both recalls are due to begin later this month. Vehicle owners can reach SET customer service at (866) 405-4226.

SET, a subsidiary of JM Family Enterprises, distributes vehicles, parts and accessories to Toyota dealers in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina. SET dealers sell about 20 percent of all Toyotas sold in the U.S.
